MONOCHROME: Do Not Cross! Nature battles an impenetrable

A dense canopy of oak trees and Florida fauna crowd this narrow, sleepy creek that feeds into the Hillsborough River. It's a beautiful scene of nature having its way with ever encroaching man and development. Cutting, slashing across the scene is a pre-cast concrete beam that appears to be carrying a pipe. In the pipe? Not a clue. Where's it going? Across to somewhere on the other side. But, it must be very important to warrant this much "protection" against human intrusion or use. So that this concrete bridge is never used as a foot path or short-cut, three somewhat decorative iron fans and fences are attached securely to the beam. The only thing missing is a DO NOT EVEN THINK OF CROSSING sign, in blaze orange or fire engine yellow. What's on the other side? More raw nature.

I think it is probably to prevent young bucks playing chicken by crossing it. Looks good though - as a subject.

A caution for intruders, perhaps. But the frame is interesting.

A truly gorgeous photo with a wonderful play of light and shadow, lines and textures! Superbly done, Frank.

The pipe I'm pretty sure is a conduit for aliens from another planet who send messages back and forth. They are working for the CIA and that's why the government put in this communications device.

You didn't know that, huh?

@ Jacob - I should have known you would see right through the aliens' cover. YOUR computer wireless is really subliminal and you communicate directly with wee little creatures. So if I HAD crossed over, I would have connected with ...

It makes a very nice shot.

I like the alien theory. At first I thought it was just yard art. How naive of me.

Argh. I hate mysteries like this! Isn't there anyone you know whom you can ask?

Fabulous photo though!

They certainly are determined to keep people off! Maybe there was a long ago incident that prompted that elaborate means of protection.

What a striking photo! If there must be barricades, at least they are beautiful. I like Jacob's answer about what is in the pipe. It's much more exciting than the reality ... probably. Well done.

@ Frank - I'm sorry, but I can't tell you that. You don't have the proper clearances.

So much work in order to prevent getting to the other side. It´s just the kinda place I would use if I was there.
