A Meridian 381 family cruiser is docked on Garrison Channel at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel across from Harbour Island. The cruiser’s twin 370-hp MerCruiser gas inboards can take this boat to over 32 mph. (It holds 300 gallons but gets just 0.59 miles per gallon! Ouch!!) It has two full-size staterooms and sleeps six…bring your friends and family. Two SeaDoo watercraft sit ready on the dock. Enjoy!

Heavily Armed Special Operations Assault
Crowds of people on Harbour Island are the backdrop for a Special Operations Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat and U.S. Special Operations team demonstration assault today on a barge fronting the Tampa Convention Center. These fast boats have twin diesels driving waterjets and are extremely quick – with a top speed above 40 knots – and maneuverable. They draw only two feet of water and as you can see, they can be very heavily armed. The United States Special Operations Command was host to several demonstrations of Special Operations Force capabilities, featuring operators from a dozen countries “assaulting” mock enemy positions and rescuing “hostages” next to the convention center, both on land and in the water. Boats, assault vehicles, ATV’s, helicopters and other aircraft were involved in the rescue scenarios as special operators from the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force work alongside Special Operations Force teams from partner nations around the world.

The Republicans Are Coming!
The Tampa Bay Times Forum, home of the NHL Tampa Bay Lightning, can be seen from Harbour Island over the boat docks on Garrison Channel. The Forum will be the site of the 2012 Republican National Convention in August. And, yes, it's gorgeous and hot today (89 degrees) but it'll be sizzling in the midst of Tampa's summer hurricane season.

Go-Fast Boats Partying at Sunset
.jpg)
The docks of the Tampa Waterside Marriott Hotel on Garrison Chanel were packed with "go-fast" boats gathered for a "fun run" by the West Coast Powerboat Club of Florida. Headquartered near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg, the go-fast boat owners and guests were partying up a storm in Tampa with music, food, drink and lots of good looking people. A blast!!
The boats ranged from sport and multi-use center consoles to luxurious performance cruisers plus the a bevy of sleek, colorful Go-Fast boats that such as Spectre, Donzi and Cigarettes.
The homes, apartments and condominiums of Harbour Island are across the channel and have a great view of the incredible watercraft and all the fun. The weather, too, was perfect.

MONOCHROME Weekend: Vol. 2, Issue 16 / Weekend REFLECTIONS #12 - White as driven snow and basking in Florida sunshine
The bright blue sky, powdery white clouds and the 80-degree weather made for an awesome day. It IS the middle of December, right? No way a sleigh and reindeer can navigate this summer-like paradise but I'm sure there's a way. Perhaps they need a handsome new boat? If you love to see your world in black and white go visit some of the most interesting people and places HERE at Mo
nochrome Maniacs! It's made possible each week by Aileni. Check out other great WEEKEND REFLECTIONS HERE. James is making this possible through his blog, Newtown Daily Photo. You must see his Creepy Clown reflection today ...strange for sure and great in black and white.

SKYWATCH FRIDAY - Season 4 Episode 22

The sky over our beautiful city is still solid gray and wintry-looking. Although it's not cold at all (I hate looking at that national weather map and seeing how cold other parts of the country are today), it does look though as if it'll snow at any minute. Notice that every slip has a boat snugly tied up and covered against the "nasty" winter day. Even a scene like this one with the water, yachts and the homes and buildings on Harbour Island has a dreary, sullen look without the glorious, blazing sunshine. My shot looks a lot like Lori's at Skoog Farm but minus all the barns, fencing, crunchy ice and snow and 20 below zero temperatures. Oh, and the farm doesn't have any palm trees. (Our weather is just a tad different, right? Right?) I'm not complaining one bit but I do miss the blue skies and bright sunshine that's more typical of Tampa, even in the winter.

Naughty Rockin'
Sure, it appears these two boats are simply tied bow to bow at adjacent docks. But look closer. It doesn't happen often, but prams and other small watercraft have been known to result from this kind of naughty, nautical behavior. And then, with that kind of fast start in the world, the wee little rowboat grows up to be a 130mph Outerlimits powerboat. Yikes!! (And you thought this was just another pretty picture of Tampa's waterfront.)

WATERY Wednesday #59
Tucked in on the Tampa side of the Howard Franklin Bridge over Old Tampa Bay, south of the bridge and interstate, is an area that for many years was the Tampa Bay Marina. Many folks have fond (OK, not all fond) memories of coming in and out of the docks there at all hours of the day and night. The marina itself is long gone and was replaced by streets, office complexes, homes and parking lots and garages. But in between
and behind some of the buildings, and still surrounding the homes going out on the finger called Mariner Drive are canals (and even a nice size bayou.) One canal has rows of sailboats and a few powerboats at dock and up on davits behind homes. It can't get more "watery" then this scene.Click HERE to see other wet and Watery Wednesday images from around the world.

I am so pleased to welcome a new follower to Tampa Daily Photo. Floral-Friday is a weekly explosion of flowers, a blog "
