Roland Manteiga: Conscience of the community

Roland Manteiga (1920–1998) was the owner and publisher of La Gaceta newspaper in Tampa's Ybor City. A trilingual tab paper, it is still a weekly must read by everyone who's anyone...or wants to know all that's happening in Tampa and Hillsborough County. I love these kinds of "captured life" style sculptures. This is a great photo of a very appealing work of art.

He is also known for holding up that side of the building.

A "conduit between the power brokers and the powerless," and "the conscience of the community" ... I'd say he was my kind of guy! Very few people in power these days have any conscience whatsoever! And the powerless are really getting screwed with the worst yet to come!

Fantastic sculpture! How does he do that? I get really tired standing on one foot for a few minutes!
